As part of my Master’s studies in Advanced Genetics at the UAB, I am currently completing my internship in González lab, contributing to explore epigenetic inheritance mechanisms in natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster. The project combines experimental and computational approaches to investigate the role of small RNAs in paramutation and their influence on chromatin structure and gene regulation across generations, with implications for adaptive evolution. This experience allows me to engage directly with the complexity of heritable epigenetic variation, aligning with my interest in understanding how molecular mechanisms shape evolutionary processes.
